Good book for entertaining rookies. Good, basic ideas and tips included. Some really nice recipes also. It's definitely worth the download.
Pretty good recipes but to much non recipes. I love to cook but don't care for the cowboy books that go with this cookbook
This book by Shanna Hatfield contains some great autumn-themed party ideas and a number of recipes for yummy food that could be served at these parties. What I really enjoyed about the book was the author's incredible passion for the topic. Obviously she has hosted many successful autumn parties.
This seemed more like a couple of ideas and a few tired recipes slapped together as a pamphlet to get you to read the first few pages of the authors fiction that is not what I care to read and not at all related to entertaining. I suppose if it is free you can't complain but I felt a little disappointed at the lack of real material and then ambushed to buy unrelated fluff.
There are many interesting ideas on how to dress up fall entertaining, with a few recipes to think about. About half or a third of this book is an unrelated excerpt from a story the author wrote.
This book was just ok. The first half is a bunch of ideas for party themes, decorating, and hosting, all revolving around fall. These ideas were just ok. None of them seemed very original. And it didn't feel very well thought out. It felt like the author just sat down and began writing about autumn parties, without any direction or goal. It didn't feel smooth or edited. The next twenty five percent of the book was a couple dozen recipes. Again, nothing original here, in fact the recipes didn't feel very "autumn" to me. The last twenty five percent of the book is just advertisements for the author's other books.
Overall, not a book I would pay for. For free I guess it didn't hurt, but I think you can find much more unique ideas on the internet using a simple google search or looking on pinterest.
Wonderful book for gaining tips, ideas and recipes related to autumn ingredients and entertaining. After reading many books that miss the mark in order to attempt to cash in on a poorly thrown together bit of info or an over-done concept, this book is a breath of fresh air! Shanna Hatfield has published many books, but this author is new to me. I appreciate the friendly tone of the book, with brief intros to recipes that personalize them a bit. I also liked the addition of photos, which are often lacking in books with recipes.
Recipes are easy to follow and contain ingredients readily available at your local market. Directions are clear, and some tips and/or 'fixes' for the recipes (ie "if the cake seems too moist, pop in the freezer for a few minutes...") which are helpful.
Touching highlighted links in the book take you to the author's blog, which has great color photos of both the recipes and more 'how to'. Seeing photos of the ingredients, stages of the recipe, and the finished product were very helpful!
The book contains tips for entertaining, party theme ideas, setting up a fall buffet table, and more. Not just recipes, but rather a book dedicated to sharing really good ideas for autumn entertaining.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for some good fall recipes which include main dishes, sides, desserts, and snacks, with a large dose of inspired tips for fall.
